HeyJuni was built on the foundations of lived experiences and expertise in mental health, driven by the recognition of a harsh reality: Half the world population - 4 billion people - will face one or more mental health struggles in their lifetime, often going undiagnosed or untreated for years.
Behind every statistic is a personal story, and HeyJuni's mission is deeply rooted in the journeys of its founding members. Each of them has navigated their own mental health challenges, transforming their struggles into a collective drive to make a difference. Their experiences not only shaped the vision for HeyJuni but also infused it with genuine empathy and understanding. Here are their stories:
Nhung's Story: Growing up, Nhung faced the weight of domestic violence, childhood trauma, racism, and sexual abuse. In her darkest moments, a young empathetic teacher became her lifeline, offering guidance and understanding. This experience ignited Nhung's journey to transition from her career as a medical doctor to founding HeyJuni — a platform dedicated to bringing mental health care faster and closer to everyone. Through this journey, Nhung discovered a powerful truth: healing and true support often begin long before formal therapy, rooted in the compassion of someone who listens deeply. It only takes one understanding voice to give hope, even in the most challenging times.
Nora's Story: Growing up in Taiwan, Nora navigated the complexities of a traditional family with a rigid parent-child dynamic. She endured profound loneliness and the pressures of an unforgiving educational system that pushed children to their limits. The hardships she faced, however, didn't merely shape her; they ignited a passion. Driven by her experiences, Nora pursued psychology, eventually becoming the compassionate therapist she is today. Her journey offers a unique perspective on mental health — one informed by both personal struggle and professional expertise. Nora stands as a living bridge between survivor and healer, bringing depth and authenticity to her work.
Why we call it HeyJuni: With roots in many languages, the name Juni reflects the human touch and connection we aim to offer through our service. Kind, warm and soothing, it symbolizes protection, renewal, and growth. Chosen in June, just as summer began, the name felt like a natural calling for our team.
